Tell me something about Castillo (How and when did you start, who are you guys, where are you from?)
"Castillo began when I decided to put a band together in February. I had a song out as a solo artist but gradually realised that the sound direction I wanted to go into was more of a band thing. I'm from the south coast of the UK and grew up surfing and living in the middle of nowhere. The other guys I met when I moved up to London."

Castillo is not a really famous band yet, how come?
"Well we are a new band, but we're getting an amazing response so we can't wait to get our music out there on a bigger level. We love playing live and we love making music, as long as people are enjoying it that's fine with us. Some of the best shows we've done have been to 50 people in a sweaty club."

What feeling do you want to give the audience with your music?
"RAW. Emotion."

How do you write a song?
"Pretty much always I come up with an idea through playing around with chords, then it all flows from there somehow. I'll record the idea, and then I'll be walking/driving/swimming and I'll come up with lyrics and more melodic ideas. In fact today I wrote my favourite chorus ever, and I had no plan of doing it. I was just walking up a mountain in France and it happened. Inspiration is never something that can happen through planning."

Where do you get your inspiration from?

"If only I knew. Genuinely, I have no idea. It happens whenever it choses to. If I had to chose something it would be mainly from pain and soul-searching - essentially all our raw emotions are what drive us forward."

Where do you see Castillo in 10 years?

"Hopefully still making albums and touring on bigger stages. That's all we want."

What does your ultimate tour look like?
"Cool venues like Paradiso and Hammersmith Apollo. Then also some historic/natural wonder sites like the Rome Colosseum or the grand Canyon."

If you have to describe yourself in 5 words, what would it be?
"Hmmmm.... Passionate, irrational, torn, homely, passionate." (Very passionate I think. :P -Red)

What do you ALWAYS take with you when you're on tour? (I don't mean guitairs and piano and that kind of things.)
"Vocal-zone tablets.
My film camera. I have an OM10 by Olympus which is from 1976. Film photographs are In a different league to digital. They have a warm, waxy and thick realness to them because they are a direct reflection of real life onto celluloid. Digital photographs are made up of tiny pixels which are not natural shapes.
A million different throat medicines.
Pillow
Books/magazines
Sunglasses!!!
Big big jacket
And I always forget my toothbrush and have to but one in duty free!!!
If we tour somewhere with waves then surfboard/surf things. Maybe a fishing rod."

What's something you regret?
"Not studying harder."

Who do you want to write songs with?
"Joao Gilberto/Tom Jobin, Dan Auerbach, Ed Sheeran, Paul McCartney, Sting, BOB MARLEY, Gershwin, Erving Berlin. Burt Bacharach."

What is the most awesome show you've played so far?
"I need to think about this....I'll let u know."

Are there any exiting things to tell about the band? (Tour, album etc.)
"We have an EP out yesterday, and it was produced and mixed by the same producer as George Ezra. We worked so hard on it. It's a rocky EP and we are going to release a more mellow one in March."

What's something no one knows about you?
"I LOVE Christmas. Actually everyone knows that..."

Is there anything else all the dutchies should know about Castillo?
"We fucking love you. Thank you so much for welcoming us and we can't wait to come back. Please keep with us!"

Love it? Ja, ik ook. Want wat een toffe band is dit! Ik hoop dat ze snel terug komen naar Nederland voor een show (of 100 shows, ook prima :3)
